External Representation and Upcoming Meetings

On 27 March the NRCPD Director, Alan Peacock, participated in a panel on "Preparing for the world of work" for an audience of 4th and 2nd year BSL/English Interpreter students at Heriot Watt University, Edinburgh.

Alan provided an overview of NRCPD's work and its role as a voluntary regulator, with particular focus on the requirements for registration, getting registered for the first time, and the importance of continual professional development (CPD). The other panel members included representatives from ASLI, SASLI, Deaf Action, and agencies specialising in BSL/English interpreting. The meeting was facilitated by Jemina Napier, Head of Department of Languages & Intercultural Studies.

On 2 May, Alan is meeting members of VLP's Steering Group in York, and is then attending a meeting of the Practitioners Forum later that day.

CPD Audit

Registrants who have been randomly selected to take part in this year's audit have been sent an email notification setting out what is required. All evidence is to be submitted by Friday 12 May 2017. The audit will take place in early June.

Signature Annual Awards

Nominations are now open for the next Signature Annual Awards. The awards, now in their ninth year, are established as a respected annual event to celebrate the individuals who are making positive changes and putting others first to improve communication and experiences for deaf and deafblind people.

This year's ceremony is all about the superstars. The event will commemorate the unsung heroes, the people whose support can help others to achieve bigger and better things, and those who are a constant source of support and inspiration.

Categories for this year's ceremony include the Supporting Education Award for communication support professionals, and the Signature Lifetime Achievement Award for those who have transformed the lives of others for the better through campaigning, education or support.

The awards will take place in Leeds on Friday 10th November. The awards are free to enter and all nominations will close at 5pm on Monday 31st July 2017. To find out more information about the awards and to start your nomination visit the Signature Annual Awards website
