01 December 2015
Dear colleague
At the end of a busy month we have announced that on 30 November 2015 Huw Vaughan Thomas will step down as the chair of our Board. As of 1 December he will be succeeded by Sandra Verkuyten, one of our current Board members.
We have also published our statement of regulatory intent, launched our new Code of Conduct, changed our complaints process and opened a survey on support for and assessment of TSLIs. We look forward to receiving your comments and feedback.

We have published a statement of intent to regulate communication and language professionals. Statutory regulation will protect the public by making it illegal for an unregistered interpreter for deafblind people, lipspeaker, notetaker, sign language interpreter, sign language translator or speech to text reporter to practise or use the title.
We are holding three open meetings in January to talk about our plans. If you would like to attend a meeting please contact us. If you are unable to attend one of the meetings, please feel free to send us your comments.
We have published our new Code of Conduct and complaints process. These recent developments are part of our work towards statutory regulation.
We have developed factsheets and handbooks for Registrants and people who use their services. We also want to know if someone has a concern that might fall short of a complaint.
We have published a survey about support for and assessment of Trainee Sign Language Interpreters. Your feedback will help us strengthen the development process. The deadline for responses is 5pm 6 January 2016.
The British Society for Mental Health and Deafness has updated their minimum standards for Mental Health services in the UK. The standards state that sign language interpreters will be registered with NRCPD.
