NRCPD Newsletter | December 2015

23 December 2015

Dear colleague

As we've mentioned previously, we have been in negotiation with Signature about our governance arrangements. Our new chair, Sandra Verkuyten, has been working closely with the chair of Signature. Both Boards have agreed NRCPD should have greater independence. The details are still being worked out, and we will be able to give you more information in the new year.

This month we have been making arrangements for open meetings to discuss our statement of regulatory intent in January 2016. We have also had some feedback on our new complaints process and Code of Conduct. Please get in touch if you have any comments.

If you have questions about anything in this newsletter, please don't hesitate to contact us. You can also follow us on Twitter and like our Facebook page.

Merry Christmas and a happy new year!

Kind regards

Kate Price

Registration Service Manager

Change of chairs at NRCPD

As of 1 December, Sandra Verkuyten OBE is chair of our Board. She takes over from Huw Vaughan Thomas, the Auditor General for Wales.

Statement of regulatory intent

We have published a statement of intent to regulate communication and language professionals. Statutory regulation will protect the public by making it illegal for an unregistered interpreter for deafblind people, lipspeaker, notetaker, sign language interpreter, sign language translator or speech to text reporter to practise or use the title.

Open meetings in January 2016

We are holding three open meetings in January to talk about our statement of regulatory intent. If you would like to attend a meeting please contact us.

Survey about Trainee Sign Language Interpreters

Last month we published a survey about support for and assessment of Trainee Sign Language Interpreters. We have had a good response so far.

Your feedback will help us strengthen the development process. The deadline for responses is 5pm 6 January 2016.
