NRCPD Newsletter | January 2016

29 January 2016

Dear colleague

Thank you to everyone who came to the open meetings to talk about our plans for statutory regulation. We are using the feedback to update the frequently asked questions.

If you weren't able to attend one of the meetings, there will still be lots of opportunities for you to tell us what you think. In next stage of the process we will produce a timetable of action, which we will publish in the summer. Your comments and suggestions will be appreciated.

We are now preparing for our next Practitioner Forum meeting on 8 February. If you are a member of one of the professional associations, you can speak to your representative about what will be discussed and how you can contribute. Minutes will be available on the website soon after the meeting.

If you have questions about anything in this newsletter, please don't hesitate to contact us. You can also follow us on Twitter and like our Facebook page.

Merry Christmas and a happy new year!

Kind regards

Kate Price

Statutory regulation

In January we held three open meetings to talk about our statement of regulatory intent. With our stakeholders. We are summarising the discussions that took place during the meetings and will soon be updating the frequently asked questions. By the summer we will produce and consult you about a timetable for action to make improvements to NRCPD.

Survey about Trainee Sign Language Interpreters

Thank you to everyone who responded to the survey about support for and assessment of Trainee Sign Language Interpreters. We are reviewing the responses and will be recommending some changes to the current system at the March Board meeting. We will let you know about the changes after the meeting.

DWP market review

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) is seeking evidence for a review of the communication and language support market. The deadline for submissions is 4 March 2016. If you have any questions about the review, please contact DWP via dhes.comment@dwp.gsi.gov.uk.

DWP VRS Service

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) is piloting a VRS service for BSL users. The service is provided by SignVideo, meaning deaf people can be reassured the interpreters will be registered with NRCPD or a member of SASLI.
