Dear colleague
Following the open meetings to talk about our plans for statutory regulation we have updated the frequently asked questions.
If you weren't able to attend one of the meetings, there will still be lots of opportunities for you to tell us what you think. The Board will consider a timetable of action at its July meeting, after which we will publish it for consultation. Your comments and suggestions will be appreciated.
If you have questions about anything in this newsletter, please don't hesitate to contact us. You can also follow us on Twitter and like our Facebook page.
Kind regards
Kate Price
Registration Service Manager

In January we held three open meetings to talk about our statement of regulatory intent with our stakeholders. We have now updated the frequently asked questions. In the summer we will produce and consult you about a timetable for action to make improvements to NRCPD.
We have written to agencies advising them of the decision by the Ministry of Justice that the Self Regulatory Body for Sign Language Interpreters and Translators Ltd (RBSLI) does not meet the requirements to be included in its second generation contract for the provision of language services.
The annual CPD audit will take place at the end of April. If you are selected for audit we will let you know next month and tell you what you need to do. For more information about the audit, please see the CPD handbook.
We held a Practitioner Forum meeting on 8 February. We discussed the development of new routes to registration, a quality mark for agencies, and how to improve our communication with deaf and deafblind people. Minutes are available on the website.
The Immigration Bill proposes to make it a requirement that people working in public service customer facing roles be fluent in English or Welsh. Following representations from Signature and Sense, the government response to the consultation on the Bill confirms that people whose first or only language is a signed language are not barred from working in those roles. The requirement can be met by the provision of a sign language interpreter.
The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) is seeking evidence for a review of the communication and language support market. The deadline for submissions is 4 March 2016. If you have any questions about the review, please contact DWP via dhes.comment@dwp.gsi.gov.uk.
The 2016 NUBSLI survey is collecting information that will be used in the NUBSLI submission to the review of the communication and language support market. All interpreters for deafblind people, sign language interpreters and sign language translators are encouraged to respond. They will particularly appreciate responses from trainee sign language interpreters and deaf translators. The deadline for responses is 28 February.
