Stewart Simpson OBE

28 April 2020

We are saddened to hear of the passing of Stewart Simpson OBE. As the Chief Executive of CACDP until 1999 he was a driving force behind the development of BSL interpreting qualifications and the registers. His book 'Advance to an Ideal' is the history of those times. From forming CACDP in Carlisle in 1980 to establishing the first register for BSL/English interpreters he is the principal architect of the system of regulation we have now. It is difficult to overestimate the impact he had - without his vision, foresight and towering contribution, NRCPD would not be here today, forty years later, as the national regulator of language professionals working with and for d/Deaf people. His legacy is immeasurable and he will be greatly missed.

Our thoughts and condolences are with his family and friends.
