16 February 2015
Dear colleague
My name is Kate Price, the new Registration Service Manager. I’m pleased to have joined NRCPD at this exciting time. I’m particularly looking forward to promoting the benefits of registration and increasing the number of registered communication and language professionals.
As you know, we’re strengthening registration with the aim of achieving statutory regulation of communication and language professionals. At the moment we’re focused on our complaints process and code of conduct. As well as the recent surveys, we’re meeting with stakeholders around the country.
We also want to improve the standards for trainees. We’re talking to stakeholders about that and I’ll keep you up to date.
If you have questions about anything in this newsletter, please don’t hesitate to contact us. You can also follow us on Twitter and like our new Facebook page.
Kind regards
Kate Price
Registration Service Manager
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------NRCPD have three new board members who will begin their terms in March. David Wolfenden, Sarah Haynes and Frank Harrington are all registered sign language interpreters.
Kate Price, our new registration service manager, joined us on 1 December 2014. Kate is working on strengthening registration and improving NRCPD’s processes to help us move towards statutory regulation. If you have any queries for Kate you can contact her via enquiries@nrcpd.org.uk.
Work to update our Code of Conduct and Complaints Procedure continues. The surveys have now closed, but we are arranging to visit stakeholders around the country.
If you would like us to visit your group please let us know via enquiries@nrcpd.org.uk.
We responded to the latest draft of the Crown Commercial Service language service framework agreement. We are confident registration with NRCPD or equivalent will be mandatory, but we await the next draft.
We held a workshop with organisations that provide communication and language professionals on 9 February 2015 as part of our work to improve communication with our stakeholders. It covered several topics including our plans for statutory regulation, raising standards, and supply and demand for communication professionals.
We plan to have more workshops in the future in other parts of the country. If you are interested please contact us via enquiries@nrcpd.org.uk.
Signature has launched a survey about its qualifications and support for lipspeaking. It’s aimed at lipspeakers and people who use them. The deadline is 22February 2015.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------We recently sent an email to registrants about our new Practice Breaks Policy. The policy will be implemented on 1 April 2015. If you have any queries please contact us via enquiries@nrcpd.org.uk.
We are working on a CPD handbook for registrants which will help you get the most out of your CPD and create your portfolio. We’ll let you know when it’s published on the website.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------We think it’s important you know about what we do so we publish information about our policies, the decisions we make and our correspondence. Recently we have published correspondence with NUBSLI members.
We currently have 984 registered communication professionals and 246 trainees. Please see the table below for the breakdown of regions and disciplines.
